Tegretol

Tegretol, also known as Carbamazezine, is a prescription medication used to treat epilepsy bipolar disorder and neuropathic pain. Although the drug has been approved since 1968, the FDA issued a warning on Jan. 31, 2008 warning patients of an increased risk of suicide and suicide ideation. Furthermore, Tegretol has also been linked to several rare and potentially fatal skin diseases, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN). SJS causes painful blistering and erosion of skin, rashes, and selling of skin and mucous membranes. TEN causes a severe rash that fills with fluid, causing the skin to sag and peel.
